Exploring Bangkok (Temple overload)

February 17-18, 2019

Before I got to Bangkok, many people had warned me against spending more than 2 days in the city. They cautioned that the city was too congested or dirty and the chaos was overwhelming. However, as soon as my taxi weaved its way between mopeds, tuk tuks, food stalls all within a tiny alley, I was loving Bangkok. The city feels alive in every street corner, down random alleyways, and in any suburb. Coming from New York, I was missing the local hustle and bustle of a crowded city.

My first hour in Bangkok was equally revitalizing. My fellow hostel dorm-mate turned out to be my first friend and travel buddy in Thailand and we explored the entire city in two days. We even walked over 12 miles each day, but we were able to see so many incredible things.

Some of the highlights of our Bangkok adventures:

  1. Visiting the Grand Palace
  2. Wat Pho and the reclining Buddha
  3. Wat Arun
  4. Golden Mountain Temple
  5. Golden Buddha
  6. Discovering temples randomly throughout the city
  7. Seeing the Thai royal family drive through town
  8. Stumbling upon Monitor Lizards in Lumphini Park
  9. Riding a boat through the canals in the city
  10. Seeing the daily Thai national anthem being observed in Lumphini Park
  11. Joining a large public Zumba class in Lumphini Park
  12. Visiting the Jim Thompson house and museum
  13. Watching the sunset and 360 views at Moon Bar
